Nick van der Linden, De Schiffies, and Phillip Cullen, Hoge Bloeddruk, launched a two-man attack after 34 km of GP de Valparaíso. Both riders agreed on cooperating, which they succeeded in. 5 km before they reached the finishing line, they knew that they could do it (win), and they increased the speed even more. They kept the speed high until they reached the final km where they shook hands. Nick van der Linden launched the sprint, and managed to keep Phillip Cullen behind him all the way to the finishing line.
When the peloton arrived at the end of the stage, they still had the third place to fight for. Ermin Graber safely brought the third place to his team, Hoge Bloeddruk.
I'm still in shock. When the attack started earlier today, I didn't expect to end up as winner, said the happy De Schiffies rider, Nick van der Linden. Only at the very end, I realized that this could be my chance, and so it was.
The stage couldn't turn out any better than this. Nick van der Linden did a perfect job today, said kschiffmacher, manager of De Schiffies, after the race.
